2013 Ford Fusion Reveal – 2012 NAIAS

(Detroit, MI) – The newly revealed 1986 Ford Taurus is going to revolutionize the automotive industry with its sexy aerodynamic lines and body. Ford will dominate the mid-sized sedan market with this not-so-ordinary family car and one should expect great success over the next decade. Perhaps this is going to be one of Ford’s best selling vehicles of all time AND become Motor Trend Car of the Year?….err..

Oh wait, I meant to say the 2013 Ford Fusion!, which has just gone through extensive surgery from the inside out and which is going to help Ford dominate sales in the mid-size sedan market just like the Taurus once did. This new Fusion is going to have a big impact on the automotive industry.

Fusion doesn’t just look like a high end European car. It is, or at least it will be once the Ford Mondeo debuts in Europe as a re-badged Ford Fusion later this year. The front end looks like an Aston Martin, curvy and sensual with a massive wide grill reflecting its new Kinetic design DNA. I really like the lines on the new Fusion’s side panels and around the lower half of the front bumper; it looks chiseled out of stone and sculpted by hand. The Fusion is sporty and stylish like other European sedans and even more than Volvo’s lineup. The trapezoid shaped LED tails look clean and distinguish Fusion from the rest of Ford’s lineup.

The 1986 Ford Taurus was once considered aerodynamic and revolutionized the industry with its classic design. Every car brand wanted to copy the Taurus’ fresh looking style and many of its design cues have been continuously used today. However, I can’t say the Taurus looked aggressive and fast when it was in introduced in 1986.

The evolution of Ford’s new Kinetic designing has lead to the birth of a very aerodynamic vehicle with fuel cutting measures in mind but without sacrificing looks and speed in order to achieve those MPGs. Ford has already implanted Kinetic design in its best selling global vehicles – Focus and Fiesta. Get ready for Fusion to take on the world with its sexiness as Ford introduces it as one of its most significant global vehicles.

The 2013 Ford Fusion has a few options to consider as well, such as five different trims and four motors to choose from. The 2.5L Duratec I-4 is the base motor carried over from the previous year but there are the new EcoBoost engines, the 179 hp 1.6L I-4 and the 237 hp 2.0L I-4. You can find the turbocharged 2L I-4 EcoBoost with direct fuel injection in the Fusion Titanium trim along with AWD. There is also a hybrid option and 100 MPGe plug-in hybrid found in the Fusion Energi.

Fusion sets itself apart not only with green motors, but with its technology – MyFord Touch is upgraded to 2.0 making Ford’s champion infotainment system even better, suspension has been refined with a multi-link system, active grille shutters and its moving design cuts back wind resistance. BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) informs drivers of objects in hard to see areas. Active Park Assists reinforces the drivers confidence to park in spaces by measuring the distance between the curb and the vehicle.

The 2013 Ford Fusion reveal was in the manner of a rock concert atmosphere with lots of white smoke, loud booming music and people roaring during a laser show. Four beautiful Fusions, the rock stars of the 2012 NAIAS, came onto the floor at Joe Louis Arena after the smoke had lifted. The crowd was ignited. I was ignited. Had the Detroit Red Wings just won the Stanley Cup? It was that boisterous.

I was part of a specialized group of 160+ digital influencers invited by Ford Motor Company and Ford Social to support the 2013 Ford Fusion reveal. Our mission was to make the Fusion brand go viral. Nielsen Buzz Metrics rated Fusion as the most talked about brand at the 2012 NAIAS with an index rating of 9,640. As a comparison the 2013 Cadillac ATS came in second with an index rating of 4,763. And at the end of the day Fusion was mentioned in over 2 million Tweets.
