(Los Angeles, CA) – There’s a first time for everything and last weekend in downtown Los Angeles, competing in the 2012 X Games was the proverbial notch in the belt for CoolFords & David Binks. This year marked the 10th consecutive year the event was held in Los Angeles and featured more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in the sports of BMX Freestyle, Rally Car, Moto X and Skateboard. X Games Los Angeles 2012 was held June 28 – July 1, and was televised live on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.

The partnership between #17 Best Buy/Serve Rally Car driver David Binks and Ford enthusiast website coolfords.com had featured CoolFords decals on the inside and outside of David’s “Magenta Tormenta” OMSE Ford Fiesta Rally Car. Competing in the X Games was big moment for David Binks as it is one of the biggest races in Global RallyCross Championship circuit.
This year’s event was definitely filled with excitement but also tragedy. David’s Olsbergs MSE teammate, Toomas Heikkinen, came up short on the 50-foot gap jump, taking a head-on impact and dropping upside-down into the gap on the RallyCross course.
He crawled from his car after the accident and was treated for the ankle injury and abdominal pain, according to X Games medical staff. Marcus Grönholm unfortunately also was treated for injuries after he cleared the jump and appeared to be setting up for the next turn but crashed into an exposed light post base, according to a witness on the scene.
The final heat of RallyCross had cars banging together, piling up and falling apart. Jason Gavin, Founder of coolfords.com was quoted saying, “Despite the dangers of the LA course, David Binks gave us a valiant effort in X Games, although he did not finish, we are proud of his accomplishments thus far this season and we look forward to him taking the podium soon.”
